1. I sat at the kitchen counter and attempted the exercise. I found it to be unsuccessful because I am distracted by different things going on around me. I think that this would be better if I actually had time or made time for this exercise however, I am currently on leave from the Navy and I never get to see my family. I'm not trying to rush this activity however, I am not trying to excessively put more effort than needed into it either.
2. I think that this question in my life at least has multiple answers. For some reason no matter what I do I keep hearing a clock ticking in my head, I cannot fully appreciate the time I have because I am always waiting for it to end... For instance I am home for 17 days, the airport in Eugene is my favorite place in the world when I come in however, on my way out the only word to describe it would be perhaps loathing. I think that if I could learn to appreciate the moment more I would maximize my time more,
3. I discovered that I need to choose patience as my area of growth and development. I heard a song the other day that said "we must have roots before branches" the same concept is applied to walking before running. I think that I need to focus more time and energy on being patient and by doing that I think I will make more out of not only my time but also my life.
Jennifer I too struggled with this activity. I personally found this activity not very helpful. This activity did not keep me very focused and I was still getting distracted from things around me which made it challenging. I think it is great that choose patients as an area to grow in. I agree with you that is is important to focus on just one area. It is easier to move forward when you concentrate on one area to improve in! Best of Luck!
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteI always seem to be distracted, and can only concentrate on these exercises for a few short minutes, maybe seconds, at a time. The concept behind them is great, I just don't have the attention span for them. That is great to hear you're on leave and able to see family! I feel like time slows down between seeing them but speeds up whenever you're with them. My sister is coming out to visit for the holiday, and I wish I could just slow time down. Enjoy your holiday and your family!!

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience. I was not a fan of the exercises this week either. Repetition does not work for me as a way to focus my thoughts. My mind kept wandering and had to work to pull myself back to the exercise. Walking before running and roots before branches are very good concepts to try to live by. Taking the time to enjoy life and letting go of worries and stressors is something that many people would benefit from. I just had 3 months off from work for my maternity leave and that is how I tried to spend it. I enjoyed the little things and if other things did not get done it was not the end of the world. Now I am back to work and struggling with this again, because my time is very short at home.
I think most of us have the most difficulty in focusing when it comes to meditative exercises for this course! No wonder it is difficult for many people to make it a part of their everyday lifestyle. Maybe a great tip is to have people find a way to make the guided meditations mobile so people can listen to it while they are going for a walk, or on a treadmill, or something to that effective so they can zone out on walking forward or running forward and have an easier time zeroing in on the purpose of the meditation.
